We Are the Legacy

we are the legacy

February has always held weight for me. Not just because it’s Black History Month or the middle of Q1 momentum, but because it asks an honest question: What are you building that will outlive the moment you’re in?

In this season, we reflect on legacy. But not just legacy in the traditional sense. I’m talking about the kind that shows up in your bank statements, your systems, your strategy, and your ability to keep going even when you’re not sure what’s next.

Let me say this: legacy is not just what you leave behind. It’s also what you do right now with what you have.

There’s this idea that legacy is tied to the big things, million-dollar exits, headline-making deals, global stages. But most of the women I know are building legacy every day through consistency, through clarity, through the quiet work no one claps for.

Every time you document a process, raise your prices with intention, or teach someone else how to win, that’s legacy.

And right now, in 2026, women are doing legacy work in every sector. We are raising capital, hiring teams, launching platforms, and challenging outdated narratives about what success is supposed to look like. In 2024, women started nearly half of all new U.S. businesses (49%), the highest share in at least five years, showing an unprecedented pace of entrepreneurial activity among women. We are proof that building a business is not just about making money, it’s about making meaning.

So here’s my advice for this month:

  • If you’re just getting started, stop comparing your year one to someone else’s highlight reel. Your beginning is still sacred.

  • If you’re growing, simplify. Complexity isn’t a badge of honor, clarity is.

  • If you’re scaling, start building for the woman you’re becoming, not just the one you are today.

Inside this month’s issue, you’ll hear from women who are shaping industries, reimagining what’s possible, and starting small with big impact. You’ll get tactical advice on funding, visibility, systems, and the inner work it takes to lead in public and still take care of yourself in private.

You don’t have to do it all. But you do have to do what matters. That’s how legacy is built.

And you’re already doing it.

With purpose and power,
Marsha
