5 Ways to Master the Art of Storytelling

    Forum Description

According to Robin Moore, “inside each of us is a natural-born storyteller, waiting to be released.” When you are sharing your story with the world, are you using storytelling to make your story resonate with your audience? Here are 5 easy steps to master the art of storytelling today! #1 Add Context   When sharing your message, the details ALWAYS matter. When sharing the details, you want to paint an image inside the minds of your audience. It should feel like they are right there having the experience with you. When sharing a story about an experience in your life, have you answered these questions:
    • Who was involved?
    • What were you doing?
    • When did this moment happen?
    • Why was the moment meaningful?
    • Why should your audience care about this moment?
    • How can your audience relate to this moment?
#2 Share Your “Why” Why should you share your “why”? This is how you make your audience think about your message in a meaningful way. When you are clear on your “why” it will help you stay grounded on what you are doing and why your message needs to be shared. #3 Pick the Right Medium  When it comes to storytelling, it is important to choose the best medium that supports the type of storyteller you are. If you are an excellent speaker on video, then you should focus telling your story in that medium. If you are an amazing writer, then that would be the best medium to highlight your skills. The medium that plays to your strengths is the medium you should focus on sharing your story. #4 Engage Your Audience   Do you prefer when people talk at you or with you? Most, people prefer a conversation. Why? It is more exciting, and it gives all parties involved an opportunity to share their voice. Let’s face it. We live in a world where people want to share their voice over and over again. Regardless of the medium you choose to tell your story, don’t forget to engage your audience! #5 Make Them Care Sharing your story without making your audience care about the message will be a very futile exercise. If you don’t make it easy to care about your message, then your ultimate call of action will be ineffective. Want more blog subscribers? Want to increase your product or service sales? It’s simple. Make them care!     -- Natasha Nurse is a speaker, coach, podcaster, and content creator.
